Citizen rights denied in the name of Covid-19 prevention controls.

When the WHO alerted the world to the impending Covid-19 pandemic, the potential for authoritarian governments to deny their citizens their basic human rights was acknowledged. Half a year into the pandemic, gross human rights violations are taking place. Some governments have turned their countries into huge concentration camps.

Take contract tracing for example. Contract tracing is supposed to enable authorities to know (or find out) where one HAS been; not where one INTENDS to be. There is a subtle but very important difference between the two. The former grants the citizen the right to decide where to go, without denying the authorities the right to find out where the citizen actually went, because the citizen still has to log his/her arrival at every public place that he/she visits anyway. The latter denies the citizen the right to embark on a journey that the authorities have had no prior knowledge of, even if approval of such a journey is almost certain to be given in any case. The citizen has to make a prior application to visit different parts of his/her country. To facilitate such draconian movement restrictions, the authoritarian regime divides the county into so-called "disease control zones", and then requires the citizens to apply for a visa; yes, an in-country visa to go from one zone to the next. The visa requirement applies regardless of the disease penetration status of the zones concerned. This effectively imprisons the citizens. Only the dictator and his cohorts have the right to visit any zone anytime, without need for either prior announcement or subsequent isolation, because to the dictator and his cohorts, the zones are nonexistent anyway.

It is every dictator's wish and dream to know what is going on in citizen's minds at any one time. To that end, citizens are subjected to 24 hours surveillance. The requirement that citizens apply for visas to travel from one part of the country to another, in a country that claims to have a near zero Covid-19 positivity rate may seem strange to some. However the actual implementation of the visa requirement is evidently highly selective.

Only this past week, an alleged criminal murdered his mother by chopping her up with an axe and locking up her remains in a house in Maun; he then travelled almost a thousand kilometres across five Covid-19 control zones to go murder his girl friend. Having accomplished that, he turned round in the last zone to go murder his sister. Fortunately, law enforcement caught up with him before he murdered the sister. The question one may ask oneself is: Was this person granted a visa to traverse the five zones beforehand, and if so what reason did he give for wanting to travel that far?

Clearly the requirement by authorities that people apply for Covid-19 visas BEFORE they travel has no basis in logic. Every traveller can, as they do, record all their particulars inside every zone that they travel to. Bear in mind that public transport operators are required to have a passenger manifest on every trip anyway. Further logging of inter zonal travellers could be done at point of entry into every zone. This would enable tracing of individuals who, after entering a zone, do not proceed to any business sites where their particulars could be logged. Such an arrangement would protect citizens from falling victim to preplanned "accidents" that their detractors may arrange for them along the way. The arrangement does not in any way impede the health authorities' capability to contract trace any person in the event that such need arises. It simply leaves the citizen with the right to be free in his/her country, something that has sadly, been ripped away from us citizens.
